These days I sometime come across some ‘borah saboks’ who would shed any semblance of shame they have, and in their own ways, at various times, in various tones would try and explain to you how the Hindus of Bangladesh are much better off than the Muslims of India. These inhumane individuals would also go on to claim that Hindus have never been oppressed in Bangladesh and if they have, it was at a bare minimum scale. Use this article that I have written and throw it at the face of these shameless, tactless individuals who claim that they were born humans.
From the very birth of Bangladesh, that is if Bangladesh claims that its own history begins from the year 1971, then Hindus have been oppressed and harassed in Bangladesh from the beginning of 1971.Targeting the independence war in 1971, the Pakistani army engaged in a cruel game of ethnic cleansing, hand in hand with its pet dogs namely the likes of Bangladeshi Dosr Al-Badr, Razakar and Al Shams forces. Their tyranny, torture and acts of rape were mostly concentrated towards Bangladesh’s Hindu communities. *Even before the year 1971 the Pakistani government was indeed barbaric towards Hindus, but it never surpassed the treatment Hindus received right after a country called Bangladesh was formed. In order to avenge defeat in the Pak-Indo war, the Pakistanis announced that the properties of Bangladeshi Hindus are to be considered as ‘enemy property’. Which is why inherent properties of Hindus worth millions of taka were lost. In the name of ‘confiscating enemy property’, influential Muslims and politicians seized these properties. Despite Bangbandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman receiving the aid of a Hindu majority nation on his quest to create an independent country called Bangladesh, and gaining freedom from a Pakistani jail which was almost certain to bring about his death, Bangabandhu did not terminate the Bangladesh ‘Shatru Shmpotti Ain’ (enemy property law). Instead he proceeded to rebrand it into the ‘Orpito Shompotti’, which still left the doors open towards seizing and depriving Hindus of their properties and belongings. Come let us now cast our eyes towards a dedicated research conducted by Bangladeshi economist Abul Barkat, who demonstrated how Muslims are gorging Hindu properties through state level looting methods.
“(A) From 1971-2013 that is within 42 years the population of Hindus in Bangladesh now stands at just one fourth of their original number. From representing at least 28% of the total population, they have now come to represent only 8%. According to the book published by economist Abul Barakat, titled ‘An Enquiry Into Cogence And Consequence Of Deprivation Of Hindu Minorities In Bangladesh Through The Vested Property Act (Prip Trust, Year 2000)’, it appears that starting from the year 1964 an average of 196, 296 Hindus every subsequent year somehow vanished from Bangladesh. And every day 538 people disappear as well. Under the enemy (orpito) property law, a total of 925,050 Hindu families have incurred losses and damage. 748,850 families have lost their farming lands, 251,085 families lost their homes, 86,455 families lost their bare lands, 22,024 families lost properties that were attached to their homes or residences, 79,290 families lost their privately owned lakes, 4,405 families lost lands intended for business or which were used for religious purposes. 114530 families lost various other types of properties and land.
(B) Shall we take a look at what Mr Abul Barkat has said? Under the enemy (orpito) property law Hindus of lost land and property at a total of 1.64 million acres. That is according to a consensus carried out in 1995. The Padma-Meghna has since then burgeoned even more with water. This led to Hindus incurring further losses of property. Up until now a total of 1.34 million acres of farming land (which comprises 81.7% of the seized property), 156 thousand acres of ‘bau’ property (10% of that which was seized), 29 thousand acres of bare land (1.74% of the total seized land), 11 thousand acres of land which were attached to Hindu homes and residences (0.68%), 329 thousand acres in land intended for business or religious purposes, whilst another 56 thousand acres were seized on other various grounds, the total land lost amounts up to 933,640 million taka, which forms 55 percent of Bangladesh’s total GDP in 2000-2001 and is nearly 5 times more than Bangladesh’s yearly budget. Abul Barkat went on to state that setting aside the raw monetary value of the lost property, depression, forceful separation of families (that is members of the same family torn apart, with each being on different sides of the border), communalistic hostility and the lack of freedom has not even been factored into the calculations here.
* This was just a brief overview of the torture carried out after 1947. In truth we have not even gotten to the main event. Let us now briefly glance at how Bangladeshi Hindu women were raped, sexually harassed and murdered after the year 1947, by the followers of “Bongodesh’s” peaceful religion. Despite the demolition of temples in Bangladesh being a year long celebration, its Muslims utilise various occasions to destroy temples in their quest to establish Bangladesh’s name in the Guinness Book Of World Records. If we consider some of the more major events the first thing that comes to mind is the demolition of the Babri Mosque in India. When a nation-wide movement was launched to remove the Bari Mosque from its premises and establish a Ram Temple in its place, one of Bangladesh’s national newspapers namely The Daily Inqilab published a report that the Babri Mosque in India has been attacked. Despite the fact that nobody had even laid a dent on the mosque. Operating under these false rumours Bangladesh’s Muslims proceeded to destroy temples across the country. The then government, in a last desperate attempt to remain in power, further provoke the Muslims to commit these acts. And thus the disciples of the religion of peace, attained government sponsorship in their quest to demolish as many temples as they can. At that time there was a report published on Bangladesh’s English newspaper the Daily Star was which when translated will give us an idea of the pain and suffering Hindus were subjected to in those times, “In 1992 after the demolition of the Babri Mosque, Bangladesh’s Islamists demonstrated intense hostility towards the country’s non-Muslim minorities. The oppression started in December 1992 and continued till March 1993. As a result about 28,000 Hindu residences, 2,700 businesses and 3,600 temples and other Hindu religious establishments were demolished. The total damage incurred is more than 2 billion taka.
On the 7th of December Dhakeshwari’s National Temple was attacked. In Dhaka the Bholnath Giri Ashram was attacked and looted. Jewellery shops owned by Hindus were looted in Old Dhaka. Hindu homes were set ablaze in Rayerbazaar.
SAARC four nation cricket tournament was affected because of this conflict. On the 7th of December, 5000 Muslims, armed with steel rods, wooden and bamboo sticks, laid siege on the national stadium during the match between Bangladesh and India. The police used rubber bullets and tear gas in attempt to disperse the angry mob. The match was abandoned after 4.1 overs. The organizers rescheduled the final between India and Pakistan for the 11th of December. But that was later abandoned as well.
On the 4th of December, the Hindu area of Kutubdia, Cox’s Bazaar zilla was attacked. The attack of the Muslims resulted in 14 temples being demolished, and 8 people suffering fire related injuries.
Chittagong zilla Fatikchori and Mirshorai villages were completely set ablaze. Ponchanon Dham and Tulsi Dham were among 5 other Hindu temples that incurred heavy damages and losses. Dham Hindu women in Chittagong were kidnapped as well.

Another large scale event of Hindu persecution began in 2013. When Kader Molla, better known as the “butcher of Mirpur”, was not punished with a death penalty because of committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War, thousands of young men and women took to the streets of Shahbag in protest of that decision. Thus after being subjected to severe pressure, the Islamic political group Jamaat and the main opposition party BNP proceeded to attack the minorities of Bangladesh, in attempt to divert the attention of the public. Hindu residences, temples, and especially business organizations across Bangladesh were attacked upon without reprieve. In just a few days a few thousand houses and temples were demolished. Smelling an opportunity there, the then leaders of the Awami League, who were in power at the time, also took part in this systematic oppression. Apart from that the oppression of minorities, demolition of temples and forcing Hindus to leave the country, are all part of this never-ending cycle of evil, facilitated and fulfilled by the disciples of the religion of peace. Despite their many attempt, after failing to find any faults any excuses to terrorize the minorities, Muslims have resorted to come up with their own fake and flimsy rumours in order to justify the demolition of temples. The other thing Muslims apparently are colicky about is about the demolition of the abandoned Bari Mosque. The most debated issue in India is about the demolition of this very mosque. Was that the truth? How can a place like this be called a mosque, if nobody goes to pray there? The Babri ‘Mosque’ did not organize any prayers at all, instead after 1947, government employees would perform Pujas in there. Nevertheless it cannot possibly be called a mosque. It is a temple. But a certain group of sculars are reluctant to call it a temple. Which is why in India’s parliament the ‘Babri Mosque’ was determined to be a ‘controversial structure’ or debatable establishment. Personally I think that Babri was an ancient landmark, and it was wrong to demolish it. But it is worth pointing out that its demolition did not result in the Muslims of India being affected or incur losses in any way. And even despite that the vocal Muslims still voted and brought the BJP (the party blamed for the Babri incident) into power. But the terrorism that ensued in the name of the Babri incident, resulted in thousands of Hindus losing their lives in India and Bangladesh (especially here), their residences were set on fire, looted, with the seculars ignoring these things completely. Instead it should have brought shame to Muslims. It was later confirmed after various investigations and examinations that the Babri Mosque area indeed housed a temple instead…

Incident 1 > 21st February 2013, at Canning, West Bengal, Muslims demolished 400 Hindu residences and more than 50 stores and stalls after spreading fake rumours about the murder of a Muslim guru, one Maulana Abdul Quddus. Apart from that a few temples were attacked, and some Hindu women were stripped of their dignity.
Incident 2 > 14th February 2014, at Hawra, West Bengal, Muslims organized a procession march in celebration of World Prophet Day. However during that march, sometime later, a Hindu girl was extracted from the crowd and then publicly ridiculed in obscene ways. When the Hindus protested to that, Muslims destroyed around 50 Hindu households and convenience stores in the area.
Till today Hindus avoid that area.
Incident 3 > 6th September 2010, at Deganga, West Bengal, just like every other year preparations for Durga Puja were well on the way. But suddenly the area’s Muslims objected to the Hindus decorating that area for Durga Puja, claiming that it is a graveyard for Muslims. And yet for the previous few years before that day, Hindus have always celebrated Durga Puja on that place. But on that occasion the Muslims went ahead and ruined all their decorations, and destroyed the Puja mantle, that is before the destroyed a further 500 Hindu households, convenience stores and temples. They raped many Hindu women.

These sort of things are only possible for India, or those who practice the Veda religion. Not a single race on the planet, or indeed any pioneer of freedom of opinion, will have such liberal perspectives.
Just because it is India, that is why Muslims are aided by the government whenever they wish to perform Hajj (pilgrimage), just because it is India that is why you will see a Muslim being nominated as the president, just because it is India you will find quota reserved for minorities in every conceivable aspect. Much like many other countries India takes care of the Muslims within it, despite the many provocations that it has had to endure. In contrast such arrangements are inconceivable in a decidedly communalistic Bangladesh.

At least I never learned to demolish the praying quarters of others, just so that I can build mine. At least my creator did not give me a licence to freely rape women of other faiths. At least my religious gurus do not publicly shame and swear at people of other religions, nor do they encourage me to do so. When I pray, I pray for the entire world, and all living things within it. I do not pray only for a single community only, nor do I let myself harbour communalistic tendencies. I have also not been taught unscrupulous techniques required to force someone into converting to my religion.
Today I am proud just because I am Hindu, and because of the things I did not learn and do as a result. I am certain that such atrocities will never entice me, because I was born in a Hindu household.”
