“Throughout my career and indeed when I was the Secretary of State, I have always sided with the LGBT community, their rights, respect and in fact I have fought for the rights of all of the people. After 1940 in the decades that followed, sexual orientation was prioritized when recruiting personnel for different jobs within the State Department, something which was regarded as discriminatory by many people. Such discriminatory behaviour does not bode well for anyone and that is still true today. Which is why on behalf of the State Department I would like to apologise to the LGBT community.”
